1) What types of music did you compose?
I mainly played jazz in my younger years but then I started to compose soundtracks for movies later.
2) Who inspired you to compose movie soundtracks?
Mainly classical composers like Wagner and Tchaikovsky.
3) What instruments do you play?
I first played piano at age six then soon learned how to play the clarinet, cello, bassoon, trombone, and trumpet.
4) Where did you go to college?
I first went UCLA then I served for the US Air Force. Afterwards I went to Julliard to pursue more music.
5) What was the genre of music you started playing music?
I was a jazz pianist who played with a couple jazz bands.
6) Did you compose other music besides movie soundtracks?
Yes I have. I've written several concertos and themes for the Olympic Games.
7) What films have you composed music for?
Indiana Johns, Star Wars, Jaws, Schindler's List, ET.
8) How many Oscar awards did you win?
I've won many awards. I was nominated 49 times and won 5 times.
9) Did you conduct other orchestras/bands?
I've conducted the Boston Pops Orchestra in the 80s.
10) What was your first debut soundtrack for a movie?
IT was Daddy-O back in the 50's.
